In November 2009, EMPOWER President, Kelly Discount presented Adaptive Leadership Styles in Emergency Management at the IAEM Conference in Orlando, Florida. The presentation explores the need for practitioners to have the ability to employ a variety of leadership styles, depending on the phase of the EM lifecycle in which they are engaged in the related circumstances. This presentation is based on a more detailed Directed Research Project Paper.
In 2006 EMPOWER conducted an Emergency Management Career Path Survey. The survey was intended to collect information on educational background, influential experiences, role models, and career progress. EMPOWER identified some of the unique roles that women play in the emergency management arena, experiences, capabilities and opportunities to help women continue to advance their careers. Results were included in our presentation "Empowering Women in Emergency Management" at the World Conference on Disaster Management in Toronto in June.
