EMPOWER Youth Education Initiative
 |
Welcome to the EMPOWER Youth Education Initiative page. This effort all began with local Girl Scouts Troop 5127 in Bethesda, MD. EMPOWER was asked to assist the Troop in attaining their Emergency Preparedness Patch. The girls were so enthusiastic about what they learned, they decided to make preparedness the centerpiece of their Bronze Award effort (the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can earn). This public-private partnership between EMPOWER, the Girl Scouts, and Booz Allen Hamilton resulted in the development of a 30 second television Public Service Announcement (PSA), and two 15 second radio spots in English and in Spanish. Links to the PSA and supporting information are found below.
The EMPOWER Youth Education Initiative program is currently under development. The full program will be launched at the 58th IAEM Annual Conference in San Antonio, TX on November 2, 2010. Once complete all resources will be available on this site to help those interested in educating youth in their communities about emergency preparedness establish programs and activities of their own. If you are interested in supporting this initiative please contact Andrea Tennison, EMPOWER Youth Education Initiative Coordinator at andrea_tennison@empower-women.com.
